No more crooning. No more screaming. No more boos for the bad-boy of A.I. It’s time to say goodbye to American Idol.
For four months we’ve watched some truly talented singers handle the stress and demands that came as they sought their chance at fame and idolization. There were many unique entertainers, each one striving to stand out. But as different as they all were, they had one thing in common (except for Kris); each contestant felt the sting of saying goodbye to their chance at being number #1.
Who could forget Tatiana, the drama queen that sobbed when she was cut? Or the stiff upper lip of Jasmine? The amazing last song of Allison? Or last week when Danny stood with a peaceful smile on his face while watching his goodbye video?
Everyone says goodbye differently. Some are flippant, perhaps to cover their true feelings. Others want drawn-out goodbyes full of poignancy. Some say goodbye with deep sadness, some with relief, and others with great excitement for their new destination. And then there are those who would rather not say goodbye at all. They just leave.
We are facing goodbyes soon. TJ will say goodbye to high school and go to college in Greenville, IL. Cristi will say goodbye to her junior year of college and her close-knit group of friends for the summer. Holli will say goodbye to her sophomore year of high school. Ted says goodbye to a very successful season of softball. There may be more goodbyes that we do not yet know about. They are inevitable because goodbyes are just part of life. But they are only half the story; after goodbye, comes hello!
So the question remains, will we stay focused on the goodbye? Or will we grieve for a moment, then take a deep breath and say a hearty hello to a new season of life?
