In youth sports, let your kids enjoy the bugs in the grass

There’s nothing cuter than little kids dressed in youth sports uniforms ready to play the game.

They squiggle on the bench. They can’t wait to see what today’s after-game snack is going to be. Some of them are not really sure what they’re doing on the field or court. They just like running around–they’re having fun!

Especially when they get distracted by bugs and worms and a myriad of other interesting things one can find on the ground.

Those kinds of behaviors are cute when kids are little.  And they should be.

And my words to you? Enjoy those childlike treasures.

There’s plenty of time later for serious sports play. For now, let your kids enjoy the bugs in the grass.

  3. Oh Janis, you wise wise woman! I raised two boys in where in soccer from the time they were 5. I never pushed and yelled like some of the parents. I was just happy they were in the fresh air and not watching TV. If they stopped to pick a flower or pick their nose, I didn’t care. I wish the parents thought like you do!
