We are heading into the trenches of BOWL WEEK, 7+ days of football over-indulgence which will require a few survival tips to make it through, sanity intact.
And if you throw in a few key NBA matchups–my 20-year-old son informed me that he cannot miss the Heat vs. Lakers game on Christmas afternoon–and some decisive NFL games, it’s enough sports to make even sports lovers’ heads spin.
How are you surviving? I’ve gathered a few tools to help you as you head into the thick of the battle.
1. Ideas for feeding the hungry
If you decided to join the fun and make football-watching an excuse to have some friends over, here’s some recipe ideas to help you throw a party:
2. Guidelines for getting along
Bowl Week can have some casualties. Loved ones will be ignored. Tempers will flare. Feelings will be hurt. But maybe you can avoid some of the conflict with these suggestions to help keep the peace.
3. Games to play while watching football (I would suggest you save these for halftime or commercials if you are watching with serious football fans.)
4. Exercises to work off the party food (while watching football, of course) When there’s still football left at the end of the party, you might use the time to work off some of the holiday calories.
The good news for those who do not like sports is that Bowl Week will be over before you know it.
But where Bowl Week ends, Super Bowl hype picks up and before you know it, March Madness is right around the corner. There’s always another season, another playoff, another all-star game.
Keep these survival tools handy. You might just need them year round.
