Eight years ago, World Cup Soccer star Megan Rapinoe was attending Foothill High School in Palo Cedro, California, where my daughter attended; she was a senior, my daughter was a sophomore. Never saw her play, but I remember hearing that she was a really good soccer player.
Look around you. There may be a Megan Rapinoe kicking the ball on your child’s team, in your child’s school or league, or in your own back yard! You just never know. I sure didn’t.
But her success didn’t just happen. It took work, a supportive family, pain, strength and conditioning, some good coaching, and a champion’s attitude that “no one can beat me.”
Megan Rapinoe cites 11 Reasons that she is now playing soccer where she is. She gives great insight into what makes an athlete climb from little ole Palo Cedro (population 2,000, outside of Redding, population 85,000) to Germany World Cup soccer.
Read her story. And remember, you just never know where the next Megan Rapinoe will pop up. Could it be in your town?
