The 5 Biggest Mistakes I Made as a Sports Parent and How You Can Avoid Them!

Parenting: when your child struggles, what will make him stronger?

October 5, 2012 by Janis

When our kids struggle in anything–be it sports, school, socializing–we ache for them.  And we rejoice to see them come out strong on the other side of the difficulty.

Perhaps that’s why this story, “We are all Daniel Qui” touched me so deeply.

For all the kids who’ve been down, been the underdog, been made fun of–for all the kids who’ve not quite hit the mark over and over, this video reminds me that we all fail and struggle with something; Daniel’s failures were just more visible than others.

Isn’t it amazing how much stronger we become when others support us?

Think of that today as you parent, lead at work, coach, or chat with a friend.

You know, what I actually think is most powerful about this story is how a small number of kids decided to use the Internet to empower their teammate rather than to bully him. This story starts out like just another story of cyberbullying, but then a few kids show compassion and do something kind for Cui, and that makes all the difference. This is a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing.

You know, you are right, Louise. I wasn’t thinking so much about the cyberbullying aspect, but you are right.

Thank you for sharing this post. I agree that the way to help your children is to support them through anything no matter what it is. If they are going through a hard time knowing someone is there for them will make them feel so much better.
