Parenting humor is a must if you want to keep your sanity. When we are able to laugh at ourselves, it goes a long way towards melting stress and lightening the loads we carry day in and day out.
Here’s a light-hearted look at the many jobs/roles/challenges/frustrations/ a parent faces in any given day.
It will make you smile, I think.
This video has reminded me that sometimes parenting humor will be one of the few things that will keep us sane. When we laugh at ourselves and our situations, even in the midst of pain or frustration, there is a certain healing that takes place. A merry heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.
I felt that healing when my dad died. All five of my siblings and I and all of our spouses and siblings were gathered for the funeral, which was a sad time. But after we sat around in a huge circle and told stories about Dad. Our laughter was full of love and sadness and it was probably one of the most healing experiences I’ve had in the midst of sorrow.
So keep the laughter flowing in your home, it will not be wasted!
How can you keep humor alive in your family?
- watch funny videos together
- play silly games with your kids
- see who can find the funniest joke
- allow the conversation to wander without parental frowns (unless the talk becomes disrespectful or raunchy)
- let your kids tease and laugh at you without getting offended
- be willing to look foolish (like when you’re playing dress up with your kids)
