Youth sports trophies are very popular in today’s youth sports culture. If your child plays sports, you’ve probably got shelves lined with them. Every season that my child received one, we promptly put it on the shelf and really never gave it much more thought.
Giving trophies away to child athletes for simply participating in a sport has caused much controversy in the past few years. Should we give them to everyone? Or only to those who are recognized for an outstanding achievement?
Everyone will agree that champions deserve a trophy, but has the practice of giving trophies to every child on the team devalued the impact of a trophy? Have we reached a point where we are giving our kids too many awards?
