At first, the experience of youth sports for you and your child starts out innocent and fun. As a new sports parent, you are still in the honeymoon phase of youth sports; the ugly side of competition has not surfaced yet.
Honeymoons are great, but we all know that they don’t last forever. There will come a point when the pressure increases and it is at this point that many youth sports parents get tripped up. You are coasting along, enjoying the adventure and suddenly you get tripped up, like stepping in a hole in your yard that was hard to see.
The pitfalls of parenting an athlete in youth sports sneak up on you unless you are on the lookout for them. Be prepared; these pitfalls can turn what should be a good season into a trying experience.
I wrote a post on Coachup about these pitfalls. It is worth your time!
If you are reading my blog, I know it’s because you want your child to have a good youth sports experience.
