On Sept 19, 2010 when Eli and Payton Manning played against one another in a much touted Sunday night game, I watched Payton beat his younger brother, 38-14.
As I listened to the announcers, I learned that parents Archie and Olivia had a rule; each week, if one of their sons lost a game, it was up to HIM to make the first phone call home; he would call home when he was ready to talk. If they won, however, Mom and Dad would call.
It’s obvious the Mannings knew when to leave their kids alone.
Smart parents. Just goes to show, whether your athletes are 15 or 30, they need their space. Let them lose in peace.
