Parenting is seasonal. There are seasons of relative calm, seasons of illness, seasons of extreme difficulty, seasons of absolute joy, seasons of merely surviving, seasons of total chaos, seasons of radical fun, and seasons of sheer horror.
As parents, it’s easy for us to look at parents in another season and share our unsolicited wisdom just because we may have once been there.
That’s especially true for those of us whose kids are grown up or almost all grown up. How many times have we lightheartedly said to the young parent who’s trying to hold on to his or her sanity: “You should enjoy every moment now! They grow up so fast!”
